Installing unsupported HP Laserjet 1010 within Windows 7 x32 or x64

For HP, you have to go to the trade-in program:
http://www.hp.com/united-states/tradein/home_flash.html

Within the community, of course that is not the perfect choice:

Thanks goes for the post by Michael Westphal:

http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Printers-LaserJet/LaserJet-1010-Windows-7-X64-Drivers/td-p/1124953

Steps are:

1) "Install new printer" in Windows control center.
2) "Local printer"
3) "DOT4_001 (Generic IEEE....)"

4) "HP Jaserjet 3055 PCL5"

Done!

    2. Dear Sawaf, thanks for a very good and effective information. I am very surprised, why the computer engineers, working in customer services do not know about this type of troubleshooting? I called several places and persons to get help! They all failed! I appreciate your knowledge. Best wishes.

  5. "DOT4_001 (Generic IEEE....)"

I don't see the option on my win7.

Do I need to install it?

    1. No, that's as the name implies is a generic port driver which does not need to be installed.
I have added a snapshot, hope that helps.

      Thanks Leon for noting.

  6. Can you tell me how to install the printer on a network. I have managed to install it by connecting it directly via USB, but I need it to work as a network printer which I cannot do.

    Please help.

  8. Thanks! Worked for me, but aditionally I had to provide the Windows Vista driver files that I downloaded from the HP website at http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=306507&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=306505. Choose the "Have disk" option.

  11. My printer is printing too light with this option.
The moment I connect it back to a PC running Windows XP, it prints 100% Black...

So what might be the reason for this?

  14. Hi Deepak,

In case of Light color prints, please try installing Hp 5200L printer in place of 3055. All other steps remain the same.
